Weft Terms of Use
In plain English
- Weft is an information and research tool for private investors. It provides information only: it is not investment, financial, legal or tax advice, and it is not a recommendation to buy, sell or hold anything.
- Weft is not a tool for professional trading or investing. Quotes can be delayed and data can be incomplete or wrong, so check the original source before you rely on anything.
- Weft is not a broker. It does not hold money or securities, does not connect to your broker accounts and does not place orders.
- You make your own decisions and you bear their outcome.
This summary helps you read the terms. It does not replace them: the full Terms of Use apply.
1. Who we are
Weft (weft.trade) is operated by Geo Nicolaidis, an individual, not a company ("we", "us"). You can reach us at geo@geonicolaidis.com. That address is also our point of contact for questions about these terms, your account and content on Weft.
These terms are a contract between you and us. Please read them. Sections 3 and 4 explain what Weft is and is not. They matter most.
2. Accepting these terms and who can use Weft
You accept these terms by ticking the box when you create an account, or when Weft asks you to accept them (for example after an update). We record which version you accepted and when.
To use Weft you must:
- be at least 18 years old;
- use Weft only for your own personal, non-professional purposes;
- have one account, for yourself, with an email address you control.
Weft is not for professional use. Do not use it in the course of a business, trade or profession, including to advise clients, manage money for other people, produce research for others, or make trading or investment decisions for a firm. If you want to use Weft that way, contact us first; these terms do not cover it. Your professional experience does not change these terms: even if your profile says you are a professional or an experienced trader, you may use Weft only for your own personal, non-professional purposes.
We can close registration at any time, so new accounts may be by invitation only.
3. What Weft is
Weft is an information and research workspace for private investors. It lets you:
- explore curated ecosystems: value chains, companies, relationships, economic drivers, policies and deals that we have put together as a starting point for your own research;
- view market quotes, fundamentals, valuation estimates, screens, comparisons and futures positioning;
- read economic data, official release calendars, news headlines and institutional releases, with links to the original sources;
- see geographic context such as company sites, resources, natural events, chokepoint traffic estimates and conflict reporting;
- keep watchlists, portfolios of positions you record yourself, price and headline alerts, research cases and document captures;
- read a daily brief in the app and, if you choose, by email;
- run the Live monitor, which checks public sources for developments connected to your holdings, watchlist and ecosystems;
- watch third-party news channels in Live TV;
- turn on optional AI features (section 7).
4. What Weft is not
Weft provides information only. Everything in Weft is general information for research. In particular:
- Weft is not investment, financial, legal, tax or accounting advice. Nothing in Weft is a personal recommendation, and nothing takes your circumstances, objectives or risk tolerance into account in a way that makes it suitable for you.
- Weft is not a recommendation to buy, sell or hold anything. Valuation results, including "upside" figures and labels such as "Price below the estimate", are model estimates, not price targets. Scores, rankings, screens, "related" links, alerts and AI text are research aids, not signals to trade.
- Analyst ratings and price targets are not ours. Analyst ratings and price targets are third-party figures reported by our data providers and shown as reported. They are not our views or recommendations.
- Weft is not a broker or an investment firm. We are not authorised or regulated to provide investment services. Weft does not hold money or securities, does not connect to your broker accounts and does not place orders. Broker names in your profile are labels only.
- Weft is not for professional trading or investing decisions. It is not a real-time trading terminal. Data can be delayed, incomplete or wrong (section 5).
- Weft does not know your financial situation. Optional profile answers (for example risk appetite, experience or trading style) set display and research defaults. Research priorities can use them to order companies for further research. That ordering is a browsing aid, not an assessment of whether any investment is suitable for you.
You make your own decisions and you bear their outcome. Investing involves risk, including loss of all the money you invest, and some products (such as leveraged products and CFDs) can lose money quickly. Before acting, check the information yourself against the original source and, if you need advice, speak to a regulated adviser.
5. Data and accuracy
Weft shows data from third parties and public sources (section 12) and our own calculations on top of that data. We work to keep it honest: missing values stay missing, sources and dates are shown, and stale or delayed data is labelled. We still cannot guarantee that any of it is accurate, complete, current or fit for your purpose. In particular:
- Quotes can be delayed. Market prices come mainly from free provider feeds and are not real-time exchange data. Symbols a provider cannot resolve show as "n/a". Weft does not invent prices.
- Sources can fail. A provider can be slow, blocked, rate-limited or wrong. When that happens Weft shows the gap or keeps the last data it collected, marked stale. Coverage notes list what is missing.
- Data is cached and refreshed periodically, not continuously. For example, many sources refresh about every 15 minutes, some every few hours, and some monthly. The time of a refresh is not the time of the underlying observation.
- Some figures are estimates or interpretations. Valuation models, scenario and historical risk calculations, IMF PortWatch daily vessel-transit estimates, distances between events and company sites, and links between a headline and a company are estimates or matches. A headline matching a company or place does not show that the event affects it. A natural event near a site does not show damage. Chokepoint traffic estimates do not show whether passage is open.
- Curated content can be wrong or out of date. Our ecosystems, company roles, relationships, drivers, policies and deals are curated by people and reviewed against sources. A recorded source review is not proof that a claim is true.
- Currency and units matter. Weft does not assume a currency. If an exchange rate is missing, values are shown unconverted rather than converted at 1:1.
- News belongs to publishers. Weft shows headlines, short source text, dates and links. Groupings of similar headlines are based on wording and do not confirm that reports are independent or describe the same event.
Verify anything important against the original source before you rely on it.
6. Portfolios and imported data
You can record positions, costs and portfolios yourself, or import holdings from a CSV file, a pasted table or an .xlsx workbook.
- Your file is read in your browser. The raw file is not uploaded or kept. Only the holdings you review and confirm are saved.
- To match instruments, Weft sends instrument identifiers (such as a ticker, name or ISIN) to its listing search, which may query our market-data providers. It does not send quantities or costs for this.
- You choose every match and confirm the changes. An import never deletes positions. Spreadsheet formulas are not recalculated.
- Weft applies limits, for example on file size, rows per import, holdings and portfolios.
Portfolio figures show the value of the positions you recorded at the quotes and exchange rates available. They are not your broker account balance, statement or investment return, and they exclude fees, financing and, unless shown, dividends. You are responsible for the accuracy of what you enter or import.
7. AI features
Weft has two optional AI features. Both are off until you turn them on, and we can also switch them off.
- AI context in the daily brief. If you opt in, Weft sends selected source excerpts and context about companies you watch, hold or have alerts on (names and public observations; never quantities, balances or account identifiers) to our AI provider (currently OpenAI) to add short context to that day's brief items. Including excerpts of research cases and documents you own needs a second, separate opt-in. Research other users have shared with you is never sent.
- AI explanations in Live. If you turn this on in your monitoring settings, Weft asks the AI provider to explain a public headline in general terms. Only public source text is sent, never your holdings, research or account details. The same explanation can be shown to other users who see the same public source.
AI output is labelled as AI context. It is generated automatically and checked by a second automated review, not by a person. It can still be wrong, incomplete or misleading. AI never changes the facts, dates or prices Weft shows, and it is instructed not to give investment advice. AI output is never investment advice or a recommendation, and you must not treat it as either.
AI features run within a fixed monthly spending limit. When the limit is reached, or the provider is unavailable, AI context stops until the next month or until the provider recovers. The rest of Weft keeps working. You can turn AI features off at any time. While you have not accepted an updated version of these terms, Weft generates no AI context for you. Our privacy notice explains how AI processing uses your data.
8. Alerts, the daily brief and emails
Alerts. You can set price alerts (above, below or a percentage move) and headline alerts (words to watch for in news). Alerts are checked on a schedule, currently about every 15 minutes, using the same delayed data as the rest of Weft. An alert fires once and then stays off until you re-arm it.
Alerts are best effort. An alert can fire late, fire on a stale or wrong price, or not fire at all, for example when a provider is down or a price moves past your level and back between checks. Emails can be delayed, filtered as spam or lost. Weft sends each alert email at most once and does not retry a failed delivery. Do not rely on Weft alerts for risk management, stop-losses or time-critical decisions. Use your broker's tools for that.
Daily brief. The brief is always readable in the app. You can also choose to receive it by email once a day (around 06:00 UTC). Each day's brief is fixed once it is first created, so later market moves do not change it. Every brief email links to where you can stop it, and you can turn the email off in Weft at any time.
Service emails. We also send emails needed to run your account, such as security codes when you change your email address.
9. Live monitor and Live TV
The Live monitor checks public sources in the background for developments that may relate to your holdings, watchlist and ecosystems. It is not real-time: it analyses on a schedule (currently about every five minutes) using sources that refresh on their own schedules. It can miss developments, show them late or connect them to the wrong holding. It never estimates the effect on your portfolio. You can pause it.
Live TV plays channels directly from the broadcasters' own streams. We do not host, edit or control them, and we do not claim a broadcast covers any finding. The broadcaster's own terms apply to its stream, and a channel can stop working at any time.
10. Your account and security
- Keep your password secret and use one you do not use elsewhere. Passwords must be at least 12 characters.
- You are responsible for activity on your account unless it results from our failure to protect it.
- Tell us at geo@geonicolaidis.com straight away if you think someone else has accessed your account.
- Keep your email address up to date. Changing it needs codes sent to both the old and new address.
- Weft does not currently offer a self-service password reset. If you lose access, contact us.
11. Your content and shared content
"Your content" means what you add to Weft: notes, research cases, claims, comments, document captures, ecosystems you create, watchlists, portfolios and alerts.
- You own your content. You give us permission to store, copy, process and display it only as needed to run Weft for you, and to show it to the people you share it with.
- Sharing. If you invite collaborators to a research case, they can see it and, if you make them editors, change it. If you publish an ecosystem, every Weft user can see and follow it. A published ecosystem cannot then be made private or deleted by you, because other users may rely on it. Tell us if you need it removed. If a published ecosystem is removed, or its creator's account is closed, it disappears for everyone, together with the watchlist names and alerts users had set on its companies.
- Document captures. When you ask Weft to capture a document from a web address, Weft fetches it and keeps a copy linked to your research so your citations stay stable. Only capture material you are allowed to use for your own research. The rights in that document stay with its owner.
- What you must not post. Content that is unlawful, infringes someone else's rights, is abusive, harasses anyone, contains malware, or is false or misleading information about financial instruments or issuers (for example to move a price).
- How we deal with problems. Report content to geo@geonicolaidis.com. We review reports and our own concerns by hand; we do not use automated tools to moderate content. If we restrict your content or account, we will tell you what we did and why, unless the law stops us, and you can ask us to reconsider by replying to that message or writing to geo@geonicolaidis.com. We act carefully and proportionately, with regard to your rights, including freedom of expression.
12. Third-party sources and their licences
Weft brings together data and content from many sources, including:
- market data and listing search (mainly Yahoo Finance; other providers such as EODHD, Financial Modeling Prep and Nasdaq Data Link where configured);
- economic and official data (for example FRED, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, US Energy Information Administration, US Treasury, CFTC, ECB, Eurostat, BIS, World Bank, IMF and the Bank of Korea);
- news and releases (publisher and Google News feeds, GDELT, and institutional feeds such as the Federal Reserve, ECB, Bank of England, BLS, BEA and EIA);
- geographic and event data (Natural Earth and world-atlas boundaries, OpenStreetMap contributors, USGS, NASA EONET, GDACS, NOAA, IMF PortWatch, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office and UCDP, with context from the European Council, EIA and UNCTAD).
These sources keep their rights in their material. Where a source requires attribution, Weft shows it with the data or in the source details. For example, FCDO travel advice is Crown copyright under the Open Government Licence v3.0, UCDP and GDACS data are used under CC BY 4.0, OpenStreetMap data is © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database Licence (ODbL), and Natural Earth data is in the public domain. Some providers allow their data to be used only for personal, non-commercial purposes.
Links to other websites are for your convenience. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for them.
13. Acceptable use
When you use Weft, you must not:
- break the law, including securities and market abuse rules;
- use Weft for anything other than your own personal, non-professional purposes;
- copy, scrape, crawl or bulk-download Weft or its data, or access it with bots or scripts, except through features we provide;
- resell, republish or redistribute our own content, or data whose provider does not allow it (for example market data). Open data keeps its own licence; you may reuse it on that licence's terms, including its attribution;
- use our own content to build a competing product or dataset;
- get around access controls, usage limits or security measures, or access other users' accounts or data;
- reverse engineer, decompile or interfere with Weft, except where the law allows this and cannot be excluded;
- overload Weft or its providers, upload malware, or probe for vulnerabilities without our written permission (if you find one, please tell us);
- share your account or let others use it;
- use Weft or its AI features to produce advice or research for other people.
14. Intellectual property
Weft's software, design, name, logo and our curated content belong to Geo Nicolaidis or our licensors. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use Weft under these terms, which ends only as described in section 18. If you send us feedback, we may use it without paying you or owing you anything.
15. Availability and changes to Weft
Weft is provided as it is and as available. We work to keep it running and correct, but it can be unavailable, slow or contain errors, and we do not promise that any feature, source or provider will stay available.
We may change, add or remove features and sources. If a change materially and negatively affects your use of Weft, we will tell you in advance by email or in the app, explain the change, and you may close your account free of charge. If we decide to close Weft altogether, we will give you at least 30 days' notice where we reasonably can.
16. Fees
Weft is currently free. There are no payments, subscriptions or paid features. If we introduce paid features, we will tell you in advance, and you will never be charged without first agreeing to pay.
17. Our responsibility to you
We are responsible for loss you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. Loss is foreseeable if it was obvious it would happen or if we both knew it might happen when you accepted these terms.
To the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for:
- your trading or investment decisions or their outcome, including losses or missed gains, except where a loss results from our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill (see the first paragraph);
- errors, delays or gaps in third-party data, or outages of third-party providers, that we did not cause;
- loss that was not foreseeable;
- business losses, such as lost profit or business opportunity, because Weft is for personal, non-professional use only.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, for loss caused intentionally or by our gross negligence, or for anything else that the law does not allow us to exclude or limit. Nothing in these terms affects your rights under mandatory consumer law, including your legal rights where Weft is not as described.
We do not ask you to indemnify us. You are responsible under the law for the content you post and for how you use Weft.
18. Suspending or closing accounts
You can stop using Weft at any time. To close your account, email geo@geonicolaidis.com from your account's email address. Before closing your account you can ask us at geo@geonicolaidis.com for a copy of your content. Closing your account deletes your account and the data linked to it, including your research and the ecosystems you created (published ecosystems then stop being available to other users, and the watchlist names and alerts they set on those companies are deleted), except where we must keep something by law. Content you added to a research case someone else owns stays in that case without your name unless you ask us to remove it. Our privacy notice says more.
We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, if the law requires it, or to protect Weft, its users or providers from harm. Unless the law or a security risk prevents it, we will tell you first, explain why, and give you a chance to respond. We may also close accounts if we close Weft (section 15).
Sections 4, 5, 12, 14, 17 and 21 continue to apply after your account ends.
19. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example to reflect changes to Weft or the law. Each version has an identifier and date at the top. If we make a material change, we will email you at your account's address at least 30 days before it takes effect, unless a change is needed sooner for legal or security reasons. The version you accepted applies until the new version takes effect. From that day, Weft asks you to accept the new version before you can use your account again. If you do not want to accept it, you can ask us at geo@geonicolaidis.com for a copy of your content and close your account free of charge (section 18).
20. Privacy
Our privacy notice explains what personal data we process, why, who processes it for us (for example our hosting, database, email and AI providers) and your rights. Weft uses two strictly necessary cookies, one to keep you signed in and one while you change your email address, and stores some preferences in your browser. As soon as you open Live TV, your browser starts loading the selected channel's stream directly from the broadcaster's servers, so the broadcaster and its delivery network receive your IP address.
21. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of Cyprus. If you live in another country, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live; this choice of law does not take that protection away. You may bring proceedings in the courts of the Republic of Cyprus or in the courts of the country where you live. We can only bring proceedings against you in the courts of the country where you live.
If you have a complaint, please contact us first at geo@geonicolaidis.com so we can try to resolve it.
22. General
- If a court finds part of these terms invalid, the rest still applies.
- If we do not enforce a right straight away, we can still enforce it later.
- We may transfer this contract to someone who takes over Weft. We will tell you, and your rights under these terms will not be reduced. You may not transfer your account or these terms.
- These terms, together with any feature-specific consent you give in Weft, set out our agreement about Weft. They do not limit statements we make about Weft elsewhere. The privacy notice explains how we handle personal data; it is information for you, not part of this agreement.
End of the Terms of Use, version terms-2026-10-05, last updated 5 October 2026.
